Are Grip Seal Bags Reusable? How to Reuse and Reseal Them
Yes, grip seal bags are reusable. The grip seal strip can be opened and closed many times, which makes them handy for storage as well as one-off packaging. Here is how to get the most from each bag, when to replace one, and what to avoid.
How to reseal a grip seal bag
Step 1: Check the strip
Make sure the seal strip is clean and dry. Wipe away dust, hair or crumbs with a dry cloth.
Step 2: Line up both sides
Hold the top of the bag with both hands and line up the two sides of the strip along its whole length.
Step 3: Press from end to end
Run your thumb and finger along the strip from one end to the other so it closes fully. Check there are no gaps, especially at the corners.
Tips to get more uses from each bag
- Do not overfill the bag, as pressure on the seal can stop it closing properly.
- Keep the seal free from dust and debris.
- Do not pull the bag open by the strip. Hold the bag edges and open it gently.
- Store spare bags flat, away from heat and direct sunlight.
- Replace a bag if it is torn or the seal no longer closes fully.

Things to check first
Our bags are general-purpose packaging. If you plan to use a bag for food, check that it is suitable for food contact before you do, and ask us if you are unsure. Do not reuse a bag that has held anything that could contaminate the next contents.
Recycling
When a bag has reached the end of its life, many UK supermarkets and some councils collect soft plastic film for recycling. Collection points change, so check what is available locally.
Frequently asked questions
How many times can I reuse a grip seal bag?
There is no fixed number. It depends on how it is used. A bag that is kept clean and not overfilled will last much longer than one that is stretched or stored dirty.
Can I wash a grip seal bag?
You can wipe the inside with a clean, damp cloth and leave it to dry fully before reuse. Do not use harsh chemicals.
Is a bigger bag easier to reseal?
Yes. A bag slightly larger than the item closes more easily than one that is a tight fit.
